The requalification of Torre do Bispo square, in the village of the same name, next to National Road 3, 14 kilometres from Santarém, was carried out by Miraterra.
The aim of the project, which was carried out by the Parish Council of Achete, Azoia de Baixo and Póvoa de Santarém, was to transform a disorganised tout-venant parking area into a leisure and rest area, to boost its use by both the resident population and the pilgrims passing through on their way to Fátima.
The intervention also aimed to create some orderly parking spaces for both light and heavy vehicles.
The existing fountain was restored, as were some of the trees. The introduction of new planting areas, street furniture such as a pergola and benches, fitness equipment and a children’s playground gave the square a new lease of life, with concrete pavement and bituminous car parking areas.
The project, which falls under the new Legal Framework for Local Authorities, was subsidised by the municipality of Santarém.
