Miraterra concludes work on Alcanede parish church

The Mother Church of Alcanede recently reopened after being closed for around four years for refurbishment and conservation work carried out by Miraterra.

Among the works carried out were strengthening the building’s foundations, repairing and anchoring existing structural cracks, surface and underground drainage of the building’s surroundings, remodelling the roof and insulating gutters and downspouts. Both the interior and exterior of the church were repaired and new plastering carried out. There was also reinforcement of the choir floor and support for the realisation of the necessary infrastructures. The work was interrupted due to the large quantity of human osteological remains found during the course of the job, which prompted the intervention of a team specialising in archaeology and anthropology. The result of the excavations, inside and outside the church, was a collection of fragments that, according to the specialised team, can be chronologically traced from the Middle Ages to the contemporary period. Elements related to the funerary rite, such as rosaries, crucifixes and coins, for which a museum space is to be created.
