On 17 October, International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the Santarém/Cartaxo Humanitarian Centre of the Portuguese Red Cross delivered the first three houses for participants of the project Casa Devida – Housing First Santarém.
The Housing First project aims to eradicate, within two years, the critical situations of homeless people in the municipality of Santarém, through their integration in decent housing, with a view to their social adaptation and increasing their employability.
The programme provides support in obtaining, allocating and equipping housing. The participants contribute with 30% of their monthly income, which is intended to contribute to the Housing Fisrt – Casa Devida social response, which provides housing, respective charges and technical support services.
A project that has been successfully developed in several regions of the country, with the support of various public and private entities, and to which, in Santarém, the J.J. Louro Group was pleased to join, contributing with the donation of sommiers and mattresses to equip these three homes.
